About Traumatic Oral Injuries
Any facial trauma can potentially damage your teeth, gums, tongue, lips, or jaw, and these oral injuries often require immediate attention. Traumatic injuries may cause cracked teeth, avulsed (knocked-out) or dislodged (extruded) teeth, cuts on the gums, or even jaw damage. These emergency situations call for expert endodontic care to maintain and protect the future of your oral health. At Storrs Endodontics and Periodontics, we offer immediate urgent dental care for these and other dental emergencies. If you or someone you love have experienced a traumatic injury, call our Storrs, CT office and receive care as soon as possible.

"I cannot say enough about this practice. I have a very sensitive 12 yr old who broke a huge portion of his adult front tooth at camp. On a Friday, at 5:00 pm the staff took care of him. They were so wonderful. They performed an emergency root canal with patience and kindness. They were professional and wonderful. I can not say enough about this practitioner and staff. Just wonderful people. I was so fortunate to land there during our crisis. Thank you so much for you care. ❤️"- K.M. / Google / Aug 18, 2023
"If you need a root canal, get it here. Heather (and every other staff member I met) was amazing. Dr McIntosh performed my root canal retreat and was amazing as well. I could write many, many paragraphs about how much I appreciate their attitude & style of interaction with patients...but I think it is easier to just ask and say: Have you had some pretty negative experiences with medical professionals of recent? Does every procedure feel rushed at all times even if it makes you visibly nervous and uncomfortable? Do you feel like you aren't sure what you'll experience or what it will cost in the end? I can only speak from my experience, but: this is the medical facility I had begun to believe no longer existed. Great team, unbelievable level of care. These are the people you want to help you with your root canal, and they're going to treat you like a person while they do it. They are the best, and in my opinion, it isn't a close race. Thank you all so much!"- E.H. / Google / Jul 28, 2023
"The service and care I received today for a root canal was excellent. Everyone was friendly, professional and helped make this a good experience (yes a root canal)!"- T.T. / Google / Mar 17, 2023
"I called the office on a Friday morning and was scheduled for an emergency visit that afternoon. Heather was very helpful and accommodating and Dr. McIntosh was professional and took the time to explain every step of the procedure. I would highly recommend this office."- M.S. / Google / Nov 26, 2022
Traumatic Injury treatment
Our team will determine the appropriate treatment based on the type and severity of the traumatic injury. Digital x-rays may be required to better understand the extent of the damage. For children with permanent teeth where the root has not fully formed and the internal pulp has been exposed or injured, endodontic treatments, like apexogenesis and apexification, may be required. In the case of extruded teeth or avulsed teeth, our team will attempt to replant the tooth into its socket. After your initial appointment, our team will go over any aftercare instructions you may require and schedule follow-up visits to ensure your healing progress. If you or your family member play sports, then we might recommend a custom mouth guard to prevent future injuries.
