Oral Pathology in Storrs, CT

What is Oral Pathology?

Oral pathology is the study of diseases of the mouth, including oral cancers. With roughly 50,000 Americans diagnosed with oral cancer every year, getting regularly screened remains the most important factor for early detection and the most optimistic prognosis. During your regular treatments at Storrs Endodontics and Periodontics, our team will check your mouth for any abnormalities, such as sores, bumps, or discolored tissue. Should we notice anything unusual, we will discuss the need for a biopsy with you. If you have observed any changes in your oral tissues, call to schedule a visit to our Storrs, CT facility.

Oral Cancer Symptoms and Diagnosis

Tumors, both benign and malignant, can form on the lips, gums, tongue, roof of the mouth, or inner cheeks and commonly appear as persistent sores, lesions, cysts, or bumps. Some common symptoms of oral diseases, including oral cancers, are:

  • Swelling
  • Sudden and unexplained bleeding
  • Difficulty chewing
  • Sore throat
  • Loose teeth

When you undergo your regular treatments at Storrs Endodontics and Periodontics, our team will examine any abnormalities in your mouth and order a biopsy if deemed necessary. Biopsies are performed using local anesthesia to ensure you experience little to no discomfort during the procedure. When the biopsy results are determined, our team will create an individual treatment plan to address your diagnosis. If the abnormality is benign, your treatment plan may simply require certain lifestyle changes, such as improved oral hygiene. If oral cancer is detected, then your treatment may include surgical removal.

His office fit me in same day with serious tooth pain. Mr McIntosh and his staff were extremely helpful, kind and understanding. Procedure was stress-free and painless. My regular dentist said the procedure was done to perfection.

I (Richard) woke up with a severe toothache on a Sunday. Monday morning my dentist was able to see me, and told me I needed a root canal. He recommended Dr Mcintosh in Storrs which is 25 miles from me; (there is another endodontist only 6 miles from my home). My dentist said if it was his tooth he would choose Dr Mcintosh. I took his advice and am so glad I did. Heather was able to get me in the next day to see Dr Mcintosh. From the moment I met Dr Mcintosh, I knew I made the right choice. He made me feel comfortable with his confidence, professional demeanor, friendliness and all-around excellent attitude. He explained everything he was doing to me. When done he gave me excellent follow up advice to make sure what he did would heal properly. NO pain or discomfort; and all in one visit! Dr Mcintosh is one of those Doctors you wish could be cloned to do everything, kind of like one stop shopping! Knowing you are in excellent hands would be so comforting. I am extremely grateful Dr Mcintosh chose to have his practice in our area, I would definitely travel an hour or more to see him if need be. I am grateful my Dentist recommended him to me. THANK YOU Dr. Mcintosh. Be well. Peace

I want to thank Ms. Heather T, Lexi and Dr. McIntosh for taking care of my daughter. Dr. McIntosh explained the entire process and made her feel very comfortable. She had a wonderful experience getting her root canal done. She was actually falling asleep in the chair. No pain from start to finish. Procedure was done in a timely manner. I would definitely drive from New Haven to the office again if we ever need to. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Ja'Meka 😁

I would highly recommend Dr. James McIntosh and Storrs Endodontics and Periodontics. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and compassionate. They truly care about the patients. I needed a root canal and after much research I called Storrs Endodontics and Periodontics. The employee who answered the phone was so nice and helped me get an appointment scheduled as a new patient. I told her I was in no rush but as time passed the tooth started to become very painful. I called and once again they were very helpful and gave me the next available appointment. Several times over the next few days I called to see if I could get in any sooner. Each time I called they were kind and compassionate and tried their best to get me an appointment ASAP. I was shocked as a new patient that they were so concerned for my wellbeing. They went above and beyond to ensure I was going to get the treatment I needed as soon as possible. Thanks to Dr. McIntosh and his staff I am pain free!!!
